Keighley Amateur Radio
Society |
The Keighley
Radio Club was started in the 1980s with just a handful of
members meeting at various venues throughout the town. We have
the facilities of a licensed bar and on our nights on the air we
have a radio shack set up with our VHF and HF radios and make
contact with other amateur radio stations throughout the world.
Throughout the year we have various talks and events and you
will find a calendar in the index on the left hand side. Also we
are in a position to hold the RSGB Foundation and Intermediate
Courses, which allows the new enthusiasts to get started on the
air. Once you have passed the exam you get your 'Pass'
certificate and you are on your way! When you have been issued
with your own individual M6 series call-sign you will be able to
operate on most bands but with a power restriction
Each radio amateur has there own interests in radio from VHF, HF,
working via satellite, contests, special event stations,
construction or just plain listening. Some amateurs send QSL
card to confirm that they have had a contact. Each member brings
their own knowledge to the Club and we find this very useful
when trying out new things. |

Other Keighley Radio Organisations
Keighley has two more amateur radio Organisations that are
independent of The Keighley Amateur Radio Society, they are
Keighley RAYNET (Amateur Radio Emergency Communications) and
Aire Valley Amateur Radio Repeater Society who run the local
repeater.
Keighley RAYNET Group Keighley RAYNET Group is run by amateur radio volunteers, the
purpose of which is to provide communications, originally for
emergencies but has been broadened to include long distance
walks, festivals, fun runs and charity walks. Over the last year
Keighley RAYNET Group have helped with at least 14 events. They
have managed to acquire quite a large amount of equipment,
including masts, aerials and trailers for use on these events,
but members are expected to use their own radios wherever
possible. Anyone can be considered for membership. If you are
interested and would like more details, get in touch with Geoff
G7JZM or a member of the Keighley Radio Club.
Aire Valley Amateur Radio Repeater Society
Keighley Repeater Group is made up of a small amount of amateurs
that look after the vhf repeater, which is situated on Silsden
Moor. The repeater is needed to help with the radio
communications around the district and is intended for mobile
use. It even manages to bounce the radio signals from coast to
coast. There is a small membership fee for those
wishing to be members of the repeater group which goes towards
the upkeep of the equipment. If you would like to know more then
please get in touch with Mike G7HEN or a member of the Keighley
Radio Club.
